The situations in public hospitals in Kisii turned ugly after the nurses in the region declared officially that the nurses strike commenced on Monday.
Speaking to journalists in Kisii town, the leaders of Kisii Union Nurses, Moses Riang'a and Erick Rioba, said that the efforts aimed at resolving their problem had hit the bitter end without bearing fruits.
Riang'a said the situations in the public hospitals will be ugly as there will be no nurses to attend to the sick and therefore urged residents to seek treatment services from private hospitals.
"We have been talking over this strike for months now. The reason why we are not coming into consensus is due to a petty statement which can help reinstate the nurses to their professional duties. The county government had confirmed last year that it was going to implement a very small fee of the return to work formulae which cannot hit even 3 million. Our patients are now going to suffer which is not at the will of nurses,” Riang'a said.
“I would like to tell our people that the nurses’ strike has begun and it will end when the county government decided to implement the work return formulae. Let the Kisii residents seek treatment from private hospitals,” Rioba added.
