Traders in operating in Nyamira town in Nyamira County have boycotted paying daily taxes to the county government, it has emerged.
The traders chairman Joseph Omwoyo on Sunday, said they will only respond once the county government of Nyamira led by Governor John Nyagarama meets their irreducible minimums.
"We pay daily taxes to Nyagarama's government but the money ends up in the pockets of few individuals. As traders we don't have toilets for use. Nyagarama should move with speed and construct toilets using the money we have paying as revenue before we can resume paying revenue," said Omwoyo.
He confirmed that any county revenue collector found demanding for taxes will be beaten or lynched should they insist.
"Revenue collection officers are advised never to step in the market to collect taxes because they will get it very rough. No trader is going to pay tax until toilets are constructed," he added.
Omwoyo argued that no one is going to intimidate or blackmail traders over their rights.
"Corrupt has been at the peak in Nyamira but, Nyagarama has kept mum. He must send corrupt officers home so that he can deliver," he stated.
