Garissa Governor Ali Bunow Korane will be arraigned in court on Wednesday to answer to charges of attempted murder.
Korane was arrested on Tuesday by Criminal Investigation detectives in relation to the shooting of former Garissa finance executive committee member Idris Mukhtar.
The governor was quizzed by detectives over his role in the shooting and will remain in police cells pending his arraignment in court on Wednesday.
According to police, there is sufficient evidence that links Governor Korane to the shooting incident.
Police are already holding three suspects who will be arraigned in court alongside Governor Korane.
The Director of Public Prosecutions on Tuesday said that he has given consent for the governor to be arraigned in court.
Last week, the DPP had called for a speedy probe into the shooting, saying that courts will face the full force of the law.
Mukhtar was shot in the head and seriously injured by unknown assailants when he had gone for prayers at a mosque in Nairobi’s Kileleshwa area two weeks ago.
Earlier Tuesday, the governor had denied claims of being arrested by detectives.
The governor on his Twitter handle said that he presented himself to the detectives for questioning.
