It is found in North Eastern and borders with Somalia.

The county is characterised with hot weather and lack of water for domestic consumption is one of the key challenges among residents.

Rain is scarce in major parts of the county and residents rely on dams and boreholes for water which sometimes dry up.

Residents especially women and girls have to walk kilometers in search of water.

Here is the pain and agony  women go through in search for water.

1. Walking long distances

Women walk long distances in search for water. 

The long distance sometimes makes them sick with swollen legs being major ailments.

2. Scorching sun and hot weather 

Women endure the scorching sun and hot weather in search for water.

3. Harassment from cattle herders

Some women have reported of allegedly being sexually exploited by cattle herders they encounter in search of water.

In some cases they are offered sex in exchange for water.

4. Attacked by wild animals

Cases of women and children being attacked by hyenas has been reported in some parts of Garissa.

This women are forced to walk in groups to avoid being attacked by wild animals.

5. Security threats 

Some women have reported being attacked and mugged by people as they search for water.

Garissa Governor Ali Korane says that provision of clean water is one of his key agendas.

He observes that boreholes are being drilled across the county to make water easily accessible to residents.
