Kiambu ex-governor William Kabogo stole the show at the burial of Kikuyu musician Joseph Kamaru.
As area Governor Mwangi wa Iria introduced his colleagues, the crowd went wild with cheers the when Kabogo’s name was called.
He spent like a minute while still standing as the cheers went on.
In politics, where crowd reception is one of the ways politicians gauge their popularity, Kabogo must have left tongues wagging on what might have led to such a welcome in a county that is not his home.
Other leaders who got a good reception are President Uhuru Kenyatta, his deputy William Ruto, NASA leader Raila Odinga and Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria.
Kabogo lost the 2017 election to former Kabete MP Ferdinand Waititu in a race that was marred with political propaganda.
It took the efforts of several leaders to come together and fell Kabogo who was seen as ‘unbwogable’ due to his deep pockets. He is now expected to face the abrasive Waititu in 2022 in a race promising to be a bruising one.
Kabogo has also tried the waters on the national level as he keeps throwing jabs at Deputy President William Ruto over his 2022 presidential race.
Not in one instance, Kabogo has told the DP not to expect automatic support from the Mt Kenya region.
