Abagugii spokesman Simba Arati's ongoing campaigns to succeed Governor James Ongwae has split supporters from the vast Kisii County.
Mr. Arati, with wide following both in Kisii and Nyamira Counties, has positioned himself to take over from Ongwae, who retires in 2022.
Supporters clashed on various social media forums with those backing his bid insisting that he should not be judged by his marital status.
"Marrying a Chinese is not a crime. Let's judge the youthful MP based on his transformative agenda," said Enock Onyancha on Kisii Hot Seat.
Another supporter Shem Ondari added: " It is foolish to judge someone based on the marriage and race. Look at the content of his character."
But his critics insisted that he had Ill motives and should continue serving in a more cosmopolitan Nairobi than Kisii.
"I bet even the Chinese wife will be a bad omen to him. He'd rather remain in Nairobi than move to Kisii," added.
Mr. Arati is believed to be plotting a political uprising with millionaire businessman Don Bosco Gichana who was released from Tanzania a fortnight ago.
