Statues representing World athletes from Eldoret will be unveiled in Eldoret town on Friday, a day before the National Cross Country Championship are held at Eldoret Sports Club.
According to Kesses Member of Parliament Personal assistant Khalwale Kiptanui, the statue is one of its kind to be built not only in Eldoret but the whole of Rift Valley.
Kiptanui was speaking to the press in Eldoret town Tuesday.
“It has two athletes a male and female representing both the male and female world athletes who come from the region and also because Eldoret is the home of champions and that we are leading in terms of athletics,” he said.
The event will take place at 12 noon on Friday at the junction of Nandi Road and Nairobi Malaba Highway where they are erected.
The statue will be officially unveiled by Uasin Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago and Athletics Kenya President Jackson Tuei among other high ranked dignitaries.
“It is a way of appreciating their efforts of always putting our country on the world map because of their exemplary performance,” said Kiptanui.
The statue was funded and erected by the Kesses legislator Swarup Mishra and will be maintained by the Mediheal group of Hospitals.
The Kesses MP also plans to build modern stadiums for training athletes in Kesses at Chagaiya and Moi University for them to conduct their training.
