Harambee Stars have won the CECAFA cup seven times, finished runners’ up seven times and have just reached the AFCON in five occasions.
What might jog your memory though is the incredible list of players that used to don the Red and white strip from back in the day.
None of those is more iconic than the legendary Joe Kadenge, who is regarded as one of the best Kenyan footballers of all time, retiring in 1970.
Kadenge will be remembered for contribution in the 1958 CECAFA Cup after the right winger scored in all the group games and got the nickname "Kadenge tournament" after his heroics.
Undoubtedly the best goalkeeper Kenya has ever had, the late James Siang’a is Kenyan forgotten footballing hero.
Having appeared for the Harambee stars for 13 years before retiring, you would be forgiven for forgetting that Siang’a made an appearance for the national side and will be remembered for his cat reflexes in the 1972 AFCON finals.
Mahmoud Abbas, also known as Kenya one. Abbas will forever be remembered as one of the greatest goalkeepers in Kenya’s history.
A vital figure within the team, Abbas featured for the national team in 1981, helping Harambee Stars win against Tanzania in the finals to lift the first ever CECAFA title.
Then there is the man himself, Bobby Ogolla, probably the only defender who gave it all for the badge. The Kenyan defender spent his illustrious career at the heart of defence.
Nicknamed the ‘Maradona of Kenya’ and regarded as one of the best midfielders of his generation, Wilberforce Mulamba was the orchestrator at the middle of the park and made a few appearances in his hay days.
