At a day like this last year, the nation was shocked when former bitter rivals and critics in the name of President Uhuru Kenyatta and opposition boss Raila Odinga reconciled.
And though the truce was to be beneficial to the entire nation and himself as a person, Raila's Nyanza bedrock had its own share of the benefit.
A good example is Kisumu City, a place where he has almost absolute support and a region which repeatedly came out to strongly protest against Uhuru's reelection on his orders.
But the area is now relaxed after the handshake and is openly enjoying the aftermath of the same and has suddenly become a place of attraction on investments, tourism and conferences.
"Kisumu immediately registered a surge in meetings, incentive, conferences and events and the cash flow stabilised. Activity in sectors such as construction was revived almost immediately,” says Israel Agina, Kisumu Business Coalition Chairman, according to the Standard.
The same is the case at the Kisumu International Airport which has this year recorded a 40 per cent increase in passengers as compared to 2017.
This is according to the Kenya Airports Authority (KAA).
Consequently, area tourism destinations have received s big boost as banks and microfinance establishments also dash for a piece of the city.
The same has been confirmed by Muhoroni lawmaker Onyango K'Oyoo who says that the same has also promoted a good relationship between opposition politicians and state officials.
“It is now very easy for us now to even pitch our development agenda to the government," he said.
