New revelations by Housing and Urban Development PS Charles Hinga on how Kenyans will benefit from the controversial housing scheme have elicited mixed reactions among Kenyans.
During an interview with Citizen TV on Tuesday night, Housing Principal Secretary Charles Hinga said despite all employees being forced to contribute to the scheme, they will have to cast a ballot to get a house.
“One has to register besides contributing before a house is allocated to them. A lottery system will be used to determine who gets a house,” said Hinga.
Kenyans on social media have since castigated the government's intention to have the compulsory deduction on all salaried Kenyans.
A section of Kenyans argued that this was gambling decrying foul play within government to steal from Kenyans. A number of Kenyans also opined that different people have different preferences on where to live hence no one should be forced to contribute towards the housing fund.
