Rosa Akinyi Buyu is the Kisumu Woman Representative serving her first term in office.
Buyu was elected in the hotly contested 2017 general election on an Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) ticket.
The MP has been vocal since her election, and is among ODM leader Raila Odinga’s close allies in Nyanza region.
Buyu who was born and raised in the lake city of Kisumu likes to be referred to as ‘Dwasi’, a luo name that means the ‘milk cow’.
The MPs loyalty since being elected continues to cement her place in Raila’s heart politically.
Political analyst Peter Ngure notes that the MP is among top Nyanza politicians who will shape the 2022 succession politics.
According to Ngure, the MP’s rising popularity could see her become Raila’s point person in the Nyanza politics.
As the ODM Organizing Secretary, Buyu is among politicians who will shape the party’s 2022 succession politics.
The former commissioner of the Independent Boundaries and Review Commission is aggressive, and the trait could see her market Raila’s 2022 bid in Nyanza, western, and other regions should the former prime minister decide to contest for the 2022 presidential election.
The mother of three says that her key agenda is to serve Kisumu women, youth and marginalized groups.
“My vision is to serve Kisumu people by ensuring they have access to development services as promised to them during the campaigns,” she said recently on Citizen TV’s Power Breakfast show.
