Kathenya Riungu reportedly took the step after he got a hint that his wife had leaked out information to villagers that he was not cut and was (the wife) seeking channels to have him undergo the minor operation.

The incident happened at their home in Ntulili area in Maara sub-county.

The wife allegedly returned home to find him bleeding profusely after attempting to do it himself.

She then raised the alarm which attracted fellow villagers and was then rushed to the hospital by men from the village, reports the Citizen Digital on Tuesday.

According to the wife, the 40-year-old man might have decided to do it himself to avoid being aided to have the cut done.

Tharaka Nithi is one of the regions in Kenya where the cut is considered compulsory and circumcision is considered the main form of transition from childhood to adulthood.

It is one of the few ancient traditional norms preserved and still practiced to date and men who are yet to undergo it find it slightly hard to fit in the society.
