The Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) has maintained that Migori Governor Okoth Obado participated in the murder of Rongo University student Sharon Otieno.
Appearing before Lady Justice Jessie Lessit during the arraignment of Obado’s aide Michael Oyamo on Wednesday, an investigating officer maintained that the Governor sent Oyamo and others to eliminate the second year Medical Records student on his behalf.
He said that Oyamo, in collaboration with another aide of the Governor Caspal Obiero and other suspects still at large facilitated the murder to cover-up for the Governor who was in a romantic relationship with Sharon.
“I have established that the accused and Caspal Ajwang Obiero were the personal assistants to Obado tasked to manage the matter of Sharon’s pregnancy to avoid public scandal on behalf Of Governor Obado,’’ he was quoted by the Citizen Digital.
Oyamo pleaded not guilty to charges of murdering the lady who was reportedly seven months pregnant at the time of her demise.
The Governor who has as well pleaded innocent is currently being held at the Industrial Area Prison in Nairobi, pending his third appearance before the same judge on Thursday.
Sharon was reportedly abducted in Rongo town in Migori three weeks ago, before being found dead in Homabay two days later.
Postmortem tests have since confirmed that she was stabbed and strangled in the course of her murder, with some stabs penetrating through her abdomen killing the baby.
