Jubilee allied leaders have defended President Uhuru Kenyatta over the fake gold scandal to protect his image as a symbol of national unity, a Jubilee Senator maintains.
Nandi Senator Samson Cherargey, while speaking in a show JKLive at Citizen TV contended that Uhuru is a symbol of national unity and dragging his name into such scandals puts the peace of the county in peril.
He added the President is a person of integrity who cannot be involved in such fake deals. He was, however, not so polite on Raila Odinga and Interior CS Fred Matiang'i whose names were mentioned in the saga.
"We know the President cannot stoop too low into such matters. The trust, integrity, respect and symbol of national unity that President Uhuru Kenyatta carries cannot be compared to some individuals who are pretenders to the throne," Senator Cherargey said.
Several people have been arrested and arraigned in court over the Sh400 fake gold scandal among them, businessman Jared Otieno.
It also emerged that Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula is a person of interest in the scandal, DCI has stated.
On Tuesday, DCI Boss George Kinoti confirmed that the voice of a man in a leaked conversation where a representative of the Dubai ruler is heard angrily talking is that of Wetangula.
Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa has since asked CS Matiang'i to resign over the allegations while Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu bashed Raila for preaching water and drinking wine on matters corruption.
