The puzzle of Kakamega twins who were reportedly separated at birth is taking a fresh twist even as one of the twin sisters threatened to commit suicide if forcefully taken away.
As reported by Citizen TV, Angeline Omina, the biological mother of Mevies Imbaya attempted to forcefully take away her blood daughter from the custody of Rosemary Onyango on Thursday.
In a bid to oppose the move, Mevies declined to go with her, threatening to take away her life if separated from Sharon and Melon. The big question that now emerges is, what next for the trio and their families?
Prior to making known the DNA findings of the three girls, Lancet Kenya subjected them and their families to rigorous counselling sessions to enable them to cope with the results.
As the case might be, it is now apparent that separating the teenage girls would prove disastrous.
That Mevies has hinted on suicidal thoughts is disturbing. As it is in Kenya today, more teenagers are resorting to suicide to 'resolve' their troubles, and the twin's situation should now be taken for granted. That Kakamega governor had tried to intervene is heartwarming, but the matter should not take a political angle.
With this in mind, the families of the three girls should seek expert counselling given the sensitivity of the matter. Failure, the girls could lead stressful lives over reasons that are beyond their control.
