Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka stunned many Kenyans when he appeared in court on Wednesday in defense of Deputy Chief Justice Philomena Mwilu who is facing corruption charges.
Kalonzo is among the 32 lawyers representing the embattled DCJ who is facing corruption, tax evasion and abuse of office charges.
The Wiper leader, a trained lawyer while making his submissions before Milimani anti-corruption magistrate Lawrence Mugambi asked the court to suspend the DCJ’s trial.
Kalonzo who later addressed journalists said the DCJ is being tried unconstitutionally.
The former Vice President said the investigative agencies erred by presenting Mwilu in a criminal court.
“These matters are dealt with by the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) and the DPP overstepped his mandate in this one,” Kalonzo said.
Kalonzo claimed a plot to humiliate the Deputy Chief Justice.
Mwilu was arrested on Tuesday over allegations of corruption.
She is out on Sh5 million personal bond.
A section of politicians allied to Jubilee Party has since hit out at Kalonzo and other opposition politicians accusing them of allegedly siding with Mwilu.
The politicians among them Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja want Mwilu to face the law in case she committed the offenses.
