A family in Muusini village, Thange ward in Kibwezi East sub-county, is appealing to the medical aid for the daughter who is in dire need of a bone marrow transplant.
Eight-year-old Faith Mwende Mailu was diagnosed with acute Anaemia and doctors recommended that she has a bone marrow transplant.
The class 2 girl started nosebleeding and her parents thought it was a normal thing until the condition persisted.
Since then Mwende has been in and out of the hospital, a situation which has affected her academic life and that of her parents.
"She was bleeding every month but the problem became worse, she started bleeding every week," her father Fredrick Mailu Mutinda painfully explained.
"After taking her to Kibwezi sub-county Hospital, we were advised to seek a specialized doctor," added her father noting that since then, her daughters HB is at 3.5.
They sought for a second opinion at Makindu Level Four Hospital where Mwende was admitted for a month and her HB did not improve prompting doctors to refer to Kenyatta National Hospital.
"They referred us to Kenyatta National Hospital, where the senior doctor for Haematology conducted a test on her blood count and bone marrow," Mailu opined.
"We stayed in Kenyatta for one month waiting for the results. When they were out, it was not pleasing at all; her bone marrow was dormant and was not able to produce blood," he added with tears flowing down his cheeks.
Mwende was diagnosed with plasmatic Anaemia.
The doctor advised them that the only way foward was a bonemarrow transplant and reffered them to India in 2018.
"In 2018 August, we got a letter from Kenyatta Hospital which referred us to India. We sought advice from NHIF offices and they selected a hospital where we will take Mwende for treatment with a cost of not less than Sh4 million," he added.
He notes that the cost may go up because Mwende will remain in India together with one of her guardians for three months since after the transplant so that her condition can be monitored.
For her survival, she has had to rely on blood transfusion which is expensive. She is currently admitted at AMREF Hospital in Kibwezi.
"I humbly appeal to anyone who is willing to help Mwende, please help us with anything. It's painful to see her suffer," he said.
