The expensive lifestyle Monica Kimani lived before she was brutally murdered has been linked to a powerful South Sudan politician.
Friends close to the jovial woman said she was married to former warlord Daniel Awet Akot.
Akot rose to the rank of Lieutenant-General in the Sudan People’s Liberation Army during the era of John Garang.
The wealthy politician met the young sassy Kenyan girl through her father Paul Ngarama when he (Akot) was the then Bahr el Ghazal Governor.
Akot was a friend of Ngarama and that is when he rooted her daughter be employed in the governor’s office.
After graduating at the Kenya Polytechnic in 2013, Monica traveled to South Sudan and started working for the politician.
Since then, the old politician became close with the Kenyan girl.
“That is when the fortunes of the family started changing,” a source who knew the moves of the deceased said.
Monica’s family has however dismissed claims that their daughter had a romantic affair with the former warlord.
The family said their girl was running the family’s business, MillPaul General Trading in South Sudan.
The business involved services like cleaning.
In the period between 2013 when she went to South Sudan and 2018, Monica had gathered humongous wealth to an extent that she bought her mum a car and promised the father A SUV V8 on her birthday.
She also owned prime properties in Nairobi.
