Nicholas Bett is well known for making history as a first Kenyan to win gold in the 2015 Beijing World Championships in the 400m hurdles.
He died on Wednesday following a tragic road accident when he was driving home along Eldoret-Kapsabet road.

He began competing at the national level in 2010 when he was a Kenyan, junior finalist. Made a breakthrough at the senior national level when he finished third at the national championships with a run of 50.39 seconds.
Bett represented the country in the 2013 Commonwealth games but failed to make it to the finals. He was also eliminated in the heats of the 4×400 metres relay after Kenya was disqualified.
At the 2014 African Championships in Athletics, Bett won a bronze medal double having set a new personal best in the 400 m hurdles final to come third in a time of 49.03 seconds while a team of Mark Mutai, Solomon Buoga, Bett, and Boniface Mucheru took third in the 4×400 m relay.
Born over 28 years ago in Uasin Gishu county, Bett began to compete on the international track and field circuit in 2015 and registered wins at the Savo Games and Lappeenranta Games in Finland.
A personal best of 48.29 seconds at the 2015 Athletics Kenya World Championship Trials brought him selection for the national team and raised him to third on the global rankings.
His twin brother, Haron Koech, is also a 400 metres hurdler.
He died in a road accident in Nandi County on 8 August while on his way back home after the African Championships in Athletics held in Nigeria.
