Kibra constituency by-election aspirant Eliud Owalo has dismissed claims that he's being sponsored by Deputy President William Ruto to scuttle Raila Odinga's base.
Mr Owalo, a former aide to Odinga, ditched ODM early this year and joined Musalia Mudavadi-led Amani National Congress which he's using to run for the seat.
The former aide is among top aspirants in a race that saw ODM field late Ken Okoth's brother Imran Okoth with Jubilee fielding retired footballer McDonald Mariga.
And in a scathing attack directed to DP William Ruto on Sunday, Owalo dismissed claims that he's being sponsored by the DP to the advantage of Mariga.
He sensationally claimed that Dr Ruto is a thief, adding that his conscious allows him to work only with transparent politicians, citing Odinga and Mudavadi as examples.
"They are now saying that Owalo will at the end support Mariga. How can a learned man endorse a taut? I stood with Raila because I know he doesn't tolerate corruption. I am now standing with Mudavadi because he also stands for good governance," he said.
"How can Owalo support Raila and Mudavadi who are transparent and shift allegiance to a thief? There is no day you'll here that Owalo is working with Ruto. I am here to stay in the race," added Owalo.
IEBC has scheduled November 7th for the polls. Also in the race is Ford Kenya's Engineer Ramadhan Khamisi, who has a strong backing of Moses Wetangula.
On Sunday, Dr Ruto insisted that he's ready for a duel with Mr Odinga in Kibra, a constituency which the ODM boss led for two decades as MP.
“I was shocked when an individual laid claim that Kibra is their political bedroom and the region did not even have toilets and locals are grappling with dire sanitation challenges. It is the Jubilee government that built roads and public toilets in Kibra,” he said.
