President Uhuru Kenyatta did not promise to buy a house for the family of Dennis Ngaruiya, Rift Valley Regional Commissioner Chimwaga Mongo has said.
Damaris Wambui, the mother of Dennis Ngaruiya, made news last week after she reportedly rejected a house that was 'built for her by the President'.
Mongo said reports that the President had built the family a house were misleading as Uhuru only promised to pay for Ngaruiya’s school fees.
Earlier reports had indicated that Ngaruiya, who is currently in Form Four, was gifted the house after he presented a poem in 2014 before the President during the Kenya Defence Forces Day celebrations at 3KR barracks in Lanet. The poem left the head of state in stitches.
Speaking to nation.co.ke, Mongo said certain people came up with the idea of a plot as part of President Kenyatta’s goodwill after promising to pay the school fees.
“Some people decided to come up with the idea of a plot as an extension of Kenyatta's goodwill. When Wambui visited State House with her son, there was no promise to buy a plot and build her a house,” Mongo said.
He added: “The only promise President Kenyatta made was for the full payment of Dennis' school fees. The promise of paying school fees for Dennis is intact, nobody has interfered with it."
Wambui rejected the two bedroomed house in Bahati, Nakuru North, saying the house was substandard and 'not worthy of a gift from the President'.
The house has since been given to Charles Macharia, a father of six disabled children.
