Vihiga Governor Wilbur Otichilo and his Members of County Assembly (MCA) are expected to fly to Mombasa county on Thursday for a budget review.
The group is expected to embark on a six-day retreat, where they will keenly look into the 2018/2019 budget, while planning for the next 2019/2020 budget.
However, it has emerged that only the elected and nominated persons will be flown to the coastal city, with their drivers and aides having been told to remain in Vihiga.
"The aim is to review our 2018/19 budget, identify challenges and plan for the 2019/20 financial year,” said Majority Whip Victor Ijaka who is also the Lugaga/Wamuluma MCA.
However, other reports indicate that the trip is aimed at softening the hearts of the MCAs, as Otichilo seeks to have them reinstate Chief of Staff Noah Okaya.
Okaya was suspended last week over claims of abuse of office.
“Being the governor’s right-hand man, they want to save him from sacking. They have taken MCAs to Mombasa to increase their per diems and negotiate with them,” a County Executive Chief (CEC) told the Standard.
The remarks were, however, dismissed by Ijaka, who said that no such issue will be discussed.
