The athlete hopes that he will smash the record during the World Under-20 junior championships scheduled between July 7-12 in Nairobi.

Leshan finished ninth at the world under-18 championships held at Nairobi in 2017 with a score of 64.66 m.

He has improved over the years and his current personal best is 75.66 m.

He is hopeful that he will manage a throw of 90 m during the coming competitions with a dream of breaking the world record and joining the Olympics team.

“This year (2020) will be my last year at the junior category. My major target this year is to break the world junior record and so my training currently is geared towards that. I am certain that everything is possible, if people can manage a throw of 94 m then we can also do the same. I am optimistic that I will achieve my dream of attaining 90 m and also make the Olympic team,” Leshan told Citizen Digital.

The javelin African champion who was ranked fourth in the Youth Olympics held in 2018 in Buenos Aires, Argentina trains without a coach but he pointed out that his role models are Julius Yego and Coach Joseph Mosinik who usually sends him training programs.

Leshan is from Narok County.
