Residents of Ikonge village in Nyamira County were left in a rude shock after a middle aged man consumed acid and died following a heated quarrel with his wife.
The incident happened on Friday evening.
Confirming the incident, area chief Fred Obae said the suspect Andrew Mwabora picked a quarrel with his wife Elmeldah Nyaboke before he threatened that he will end end his life.
"Mwabora returned home at 3 pm and started quarreling with his wife accusing her of seeing other men outside the wedlock. He later locked himself in the house where he consumed acid," said Obae.
The administrator said Mwabora died on his way to Nyamira County hospital.
"He could not survive because the acid he consumed damaged his intestines. Cases of suicide are at the peak in the region," he stated.
He said the deceased body was moved to Nyamira hospital morgue.
The chief challenged married women to stop chasing other men for sex to help in curbing suicide among men.
"My plea to married women is that they should be faithful to their husbands," noted the chief.
