As the saying goes "Education is the key to success", many parents in Gusii region have resorted to making both ends meet to ensure their sons and daughters get quality education.
The eight years in Primary school or Four years in Secondary school is always an achievement to any sober parent.
However, it is not the case with their sons and daughters as they feel like it is a "small" prison". Once they are done with their final exams, they feel happy being freed from the prison where their hands were tied with no freedom.
Below is what your son/daughter is likely to do if you're not careful with them
1. Making families
They always feel mature enough to marry or get married. This decision ruins them as they, later on, realise that they have nothing to keep up a family. As Nemwel Nyang'au narrates, he is regretting marrying early.
"I married early. I thought it was the only thing I could do after my form four exams. I realised I could not keep the family and resorted to do everything possible to ensure I put the food on the table," Nyang'au says.
2. Partying all along
Some students will go out clubbing, partying and sexing. They end up contracting diseases and even ruining their lives.
"I became addicted to alcohol since I used to go out drinking in clubs after exams as a way of celebrating my 4 years of misery in secondary school. Am now an addict and its really 'eating into my pockets." says one Michael Nyakundi who did his KCSE in 2013.
3. Selling books
Other students sell their books and even the ones they stole from school libraries to second-hand dealers. This is because they feel they are done with education and they are mature to do anything they wish.
