Two women were Monday arrested in Kisauni after they were accused of conning residents over Sh2 million in land buying scandal.
Mwembelegeza residents nabbed the duo when on a mission to re-sell a piece of land to another buyer, few days after receiving cash from the first buyer.
The two women were almost lynched by the mob before the police came in on time.
According to Nation, the two have connections with both land officers and local administrators.
It is reported that they had received Sh1,700,000 from the second buyer after they had already received Sh400,000 as a first deposit from the first buyer over the same land.
Surprisingly, the piece of land had two title deeds which had already been issued to two different people by the Mombasa land offices. They issued the first one to Geoffrey Omondi in March 2005 and the second in October 2016 to one, Joyce Wanjiku.
Barke Ali, who lost Sh1,700,000 to the two women said she followed all the procedures before she paid the amount.
“We have visited lands offices in Mombasa and the land registrar assured us the land is not contentious and we can make payment. We gave the two women Sh1 million as first deposit but when we went to the ground after making the last payment, we noticed the land had been sold to a number of people,” said Ali as quoted by Nation.
Police sources indicate the two women have several Identification Documents (ID).
Kisauni police boss Julius Kiragu said the women will be charged accordingly, adding that one of them has a land case dated back in 2008.
“The two women have different ID cards, one has two ID cards while the other has three. This is illegal and we shall charge them,” said Kiragu.
