Speaking on Saturday, the former Subukia MP noted that the country has since independence been treated to a situation where governments shun Auditor Generals' reports.

He noted that instead, all the four regimes have been fighting the reports, which on most occasions reveal questionable dealings within the departments of the government.

This, he said, is coming out as a culture where the government finds it hard to embrace the reports, including ones from parliamentary committees, on grounds that they on most occasions bring the government out in bad light.

"All the regimes have been fighting auditor and parliamentary committee reports (Serikali zote zimekuwa zikipigana na ripoti za mkaguzi wa fedha na kaguzi za bunge)," Koigi said during an interview on Radio Sauti Ya Mwananchi's Cheche show on Saturday evening.

He said that this has been a major hurdle in the fight against graft, observing that the government has been favouring revelations from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

"Graft revelations made through audits is ten times more than that made by the DCI and DPP (Ufisadi unaofichuliwa kwa ukaguzi ni mara kumi ya zile za DCI na DPP)," noted the former assistant minister.
