Nyamira County government under the leadership of Governor John Nyagarama is set to launch a monthly clean-up exercise.
According to a circular, the county government has set Tuesday of every week as the day all county workers should participate in the exercise.
Officer in charge of Environment Samuel Maiko said the move is aimed at ensuring living and working environment is clean.
"We will be cleaning up various parts of the county for the sake of keeping our environment clean. County employees will participate in the exercise irrespective of their rank," he noted.
He said Thomas Nyariki, the Deputy county secretary was picked to oversee the clean-up exercise monthly.
"A report will be given to the governor every week. Nyamira residents deserve a better environment for living, work and businesses," he noted.
Maiko warned the public against careless dumping saying whoever caught dumping garbage carelessly will face the law.
"Residents must dump garbage at recommended areas. Anyone who will be found dumping at illegal dumping sites will be arrested to face prosecution. It is everyone's mandate to take care of the environment," he added.
