Treasury Cabinet Secretary was on Friday being trolled online by angry Kenyans after he rejected Parliament's move to suspend the implementation of the new Value Added Tax (VAT) on petroleum products.
MPs had suspended the implementation for two years after a public outcry of rising cost of living.
The move by MPs won the hearts of many Kenyans but the celebrations were short-lived.
On Friday, Rotich said Parliament's move was null and void. He said the new VAT on fuel will be effective September 1.
Kenyans online went hammer and tongs on Rotich as the new move will lead to an increase in the price of commodities.
"See an [explicit]," Halimatou Nsangou captioned Rotich's news of implementing the new VAT.
The new VAT will be 16% which means every commodity which depends on fuel will be affected and it is obvious the cost will be passed to consumers.
"What is wrong with this guy [CS Rotich], does he even know what Kenyans are going through at the moment?" Mike Warriors posted on Facebook.
"Uhuru should send this [explicit], packing. Who do you think you are?" Gerry Oduor said on Facebook.
