This comes at a time when the Head of State seems surrounded by a large number of presidential hopefuls in the approaching 2022 general polls.

But according to the veteran politician, Uhuru is very unlikely to pick any of them as his successor for fear of appearing as a dictator keen on forcing his choice on Kenyans.

He said that just like his successor Mwai Kibaki, Uhuru is very likely to instead remain silent and watch from a distance as the people seeking to succeed him combat each other.

"Kuna uwezekano Uhuru hatamchagua yeyote kama chaguo lake. Japo huenda kuna yule ambaye angempendelea, kujaribu kushawishi wakenya wamchague kutamfanya awe kama dikteta. (He is aware that this would make his a dictator which he wouldn't want, he will instead remain silent)," said Koigi.

The former Assistant Cabinet Minister was speaking in Nakuru, during a radio interview on Sauti Ya Mwananchi's Cheche show, Saturday evening.

He sided with Deputy President William Ruto's recent remarks that all aspirants be let to fight their way up using their political skills.

Koigi added that it will actually be very hard for any of the candidates to make it to Statehouse riding on an endorsement, adding that Kenya and her people are past that stage.

"Wale wanaotaka viti wajitafutie wenyewe, wasitegemee kuungwa mkono na rais (let the hopefuls go all out and seek the votes on their own)," he added.

Uhuru's allies deemed to be eyeing the slot include Ruto, opposition leader Raila Odinga and Amani National Congress (ANC) chief Musalia Mudavadi.

Mudavadi has since softened his heart for Uhuru following Raila's truce with the President earlier last year, otherwise, they battled Uhuru in the 2017 presidential race.
