Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria has downplayed previous reports that the fire usually witnessed at Gikomba Market is ordinary stating that some powerful individuals are targeting the land.
Taking to his Facebook page on Wednesday morning, the outspoken legislator said he was apprehended and charged for incitement when he raised concern over the Gikomba fire five years ago.
"5 years ago, I said that the Gikomba bombing was not an ordinary act of terror,
"I was arrested and charged with incitement. I battled that case for 3 years before being acquitted. Since then, Gikomba has been razed countless times," he posted on his Facebook page.
He added that land grabbers fear that Gikomba which sits on billions of land in valuation is just being used by ordinary citizens.
Kuria, a strong human rights and welfare defender noted that Gikomba has served the locals and their families since time immemorial and he will not sit and watch as some individuals try grabbing the land by razing down the market place.
"As I have said during each of those incidents, these are not ordinary fire accidents. I know some people feel that the proximity of Gikomba to CBD gives the land that Gikomba sits on hundreds of billions in valuation.
"But what they don’t see is that from the time immemorial Gikomba supports livelihoods for thousands of families in this country. I believe there is enough for everyone’s need in Kenya but not enough for everyone’s greed," he added.
Kenyans on Wednesday woke up to the devastating news of another fire break out at Gikomba Market.
