The government is committed to ensuring quality education in technical and vocation training institutes across the country.
Speaking on Friday during the 13th graduation ceremony at the Rift Valley Institute of Science and Technology (RVIST), Technical and Vocational Education and Training Deputy Director Johnson Owanambirifuma said the move is aimed at ensuring gainful and self-employment among the youth.
He called on parents to send their children to TVET centres.
“Technical and vocational training is the way to go and we are calling on parents to embrace the same,” he said.
He said every sub-county will have a vocational training centre as the country gears towards President Uhuru Kenyatta's Big Four Agenda.
“If we were to achieve the Big 4 Agenda and vision 2030, then there is need to ensure that 10 percent of our population is enrolled in the Tvet and vocational centres,” he said.
He called on those who graduated in various fields to continue using their skills and innovation in transforming society.
“Innovation and creativity will help come up with solutions to some of the problems Kenya is facing,” he said.
