Deputy President William Ruto has found himself in an unfamiliar territory after his name was adversely mentioned with regard to the recent evictions in Rift Valley's Mau Forest.
On Friday, his name was the subject of discussion at a press conference in Parliament when ODM lawmakers accused him of orchestrating the evictions in Kenya's largest water tower.
In the new development, MPs, especially those from the opposition seem to be capitalising on the emotive Mau issue to hit out at the Deputy President.
Although the evictions are the right thing for the government to do owing to the recurrent droughts the country has been experiencing, the development seem to be turning against the DP who is eyeing the presidency in 2022.
The Mau eviction saga is what denied opposition chief Raila Odinga the opportunity to harvest Rift Valley votes and subsequently become President in 2013 as the issue was highly politicised.
MPs from Rift Valley after the 2007 general election rallied their voters against Raila and successfully denied him the opportunity of becoming President.
Ruto, this time round, has to trade carefully with the Mau issue lest MPs use it as a de-campaigning tool for him as 2022 approaches .
All the seven opposition MPs who addressed the media in Parliament on Friday squarely blamed Ruto for the evictions in Mau.
