A Bishop from Kisumu county will spend the next 75 years behind bars after he was convicted of defilement.
Appearing before Kisumu Resident Magistrate Pauline Mbulika on Tuesday, Bishop Joseph Agutu Obala was found guilty of raping 3 minors.
The court also found him guilty of deliberately infecting the trio with the HIV virus between April and July 16, 2016.
One of the girls who testified in court narrated how the vicar promised to sponsor her education.
The girl who is a total orphan was then handed over by her grandmother before the ordeal.
"My grandmother brought me to him and he promised to sponsor my education. My grandmother went back home and left me with him at the church,” she was quoted by the Standard.
The victim was one of the 4 witnesses lined up by the prosecution in a bid to pin the convict.
She added that herself and the other girls were defiled on the same day, and were subjected to the inhumane act immediately after her as they slept in the same room.
The Bishop first appeared in court in October, before being released on bond.
In his defence, he pleaded not guilty, claiming that the allegations were fabricated to get back to him after busting the girls speaking to their boyfriends.
The girls in question are aged between 14 and 15, and he is said to have taken advantage of them as they were under his care in the orphanage.
