The humanitarian organisation came under fire after asking Kenyans to make donations to families in areas hit by drought.

A number of online users didn’t take the request lightly and came out with their guns blazing. Karua has, however, said that the organisation is doing a good job and it should be supported by all citizens of this nation.

“I support @KenyaRedCross because they deliver. They are the first to arrive in any humanitarian crisis. Their call for support for the unfolding hunger crisis deserves support," she said on Friday.

The remarks come after Deputy President William Ruto landed in trouble with a section of Kenyans and leaders after maintaining that no one has died from hunger.

The DP said that those spreading claims that Kenyans have died from hunger are malicious and have ill intentions.

"We don't have a food crisis, but a challenge of food distribution…I want to tell the country that nobody has died, we are working round the clock to make sure that nobody dies as a result of hunger," Ruto said.

The ODM Party has since issued a statement urging Ruto not to make such remarks in public without ascertaining his facts and consulting the relevant sources.
