Kori was buried so early in the morning that mourners who arrived midmorning to attend the ceremony found it was over.

"The body was brought from the mortuary on Thursday night and buried early Friday morning," said a relative in an exclusive interview.

According to the relative, the family was embroiled in a feud and some members were expected to go to court on Friday to seek a court order to halt the burial.

"Everything was over by 10am when we were arriving. We also got shocked by the turn of events," said Andrew Kibe, a local businessman.

Kori was a popular civic leader in Molo and Elburgon and had served as the chairman of the Nakuru County Council.

He was also popular for his shrewdness in business which saw him establish a string of business enterprises.

However, despite his political clout, which saw area MP and other politicians mourn his death, area leaders did not attend the burial.

"Mzee's burial ought to have been attended by several political leaders. Yeye pia alikuwa kiongozi, but hilo halikufanyika (he was also a leader but that did not happen)," Geoffrey Mwaura said.

Molo MP Kuria Kimani had eulogised Kori as 'a great son of Molo'.

“I have learnt with great sadness the passing on of Mr George Kori, a former councillor and investor in Elburgon, Molo. He donated land for the construction of a chief’s office and police camp at Mutamaiyo. May the Lord console his family during this painful moment! RIP great son of Molo,” the MP said.
