President Uhuru Kenyatta has cancelled his tour of Mauritania for the African Union (AU) summit.
According to State House Spokesperson Manoah Esipisu, Kenyatta who was expected to leave for the summit on Friday, "has been held back by urgent state matters and will not attend the African Union Summit in Nouakchott, Mauritania."
A short communication from the Spokesperson's Office said the president has deployed Dr. Amb. Monica Juma, CS for Foreign Affairs, to lead Kenya's delegation to the summit this weekend.
The move comes few days after he hosted President Yoweri Museveni of Uganda and President Paul Kagame of Rwanda as well as a Special Envoy of President Salva Kiir of South Sudan for the 14th Summit of the Northern Corridor Integration Projects (NCIP) at Safari Park Hotel in Nairobi on Tuesday.
During the Nairobi meeting, the leaders reviewed the progress made in the implementation of the various resolutions reached at during the 13th Summit held in Kampala, Uganda on April 23, 2016.
