President Uhuru has deployed 100 Cuban doctors to different counties.
During a deployment exercise that took place at Kenya Medical Supplies Agency (KEMSA) Warehouse in Industrial Area, Nairobi this afternoon, President Uhuru Kenyatta pleaded with Kenyans to welcome the medical specialists.
He explained the need for the specialist services which are much needed in the different health sectors.
The Cuban doctors who were hired include; ephrologists, orthopaedic surgeons, radiologists, neurologists and plastic surgeons.
President Kenyatta has asked Kenyans to welcome them and support them in their service delivery.
He also noted that a team of 50 Kenyan doctors will be sent to Cuba for specialist training.
This move, however, has received strong opposition from the local doctor’s union, which dictates that the government should first hire over 1,200 unemployed Kenyan doctors.
At the deployment, exercise was the Cuban ambassador to Kenya, Ernesto Gomez Diaz.
He affirmed that this exercise was going to strengthen bilateral relations between Kenya and Cuba.
Isiolo Governor, Mr. Mohamed Kuti praised this move stating that it is a better way of co-operation between the two countries and the national and county governments.
