Even if Migori Governor Okoth Obado will get bond on October 24th, it's no secret that he awaits tough court battle to clear his name over Sharon Otieno's murder.
During Friday's court session, DPP Noordin Haji, through prosecutor Jacob Ondari, insisted that the little Mr. Obado can get is death penalty.
"The constitution did not abolish death penalty. It gives court powers to come up or spell such sentences to capital offenders.
"And we are certain, based on some of the evidence we have provided in pre-trial, the worst he can get is death penalty," he said.
Mr. Obado's defense team will now have to tackle three key witnesses lined up by prosecutors, who insist that he was at the murder scene.
The first likely to take stage is journalist Barack Oduor, the man who was allegedly abducted alongside Sharon Otieno before escaping by jumping out of the moving vehicle.
Oduor, a Nation Media journalist, had been called by Obado's aide Michael Oyamo to a Rongo hotel along with Sharon before they were bungled into a waiting vehicle.
The second witness is the taxi driver Jackson Gombe, who was arrested but has since been released to be part of prosecution witness.
Police sources said Mr. Gombe admitted that he was not privy to the abduction but he was behind the wheels that fateful night.
And to wrap up a powerful witnesses team is unidentified taxi driver who is believed to have driven the governor to the murder scene unknowingly but recorded a statement after Sharon's body was discovered.
In his statement, Obado denied being at the murder scene, insisting that he spent most of his time in Nairobi and even visiting Ida Odinga at her Karen home.
While Obado admits being the father of Sharon's unborn baby, he has however denied plotting and executing the murder of his girlfriend.
