Activist Boniface Mwangi has appealed to the new Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai to ensure that sanity is restored in the police force.
The activist noted that youths have been arrested in the past over petty reasons. He reminded the new police boss not to ignore the plight of youths who have been facing police brutality.
“IG Hillary Mutyambai as you serve Kenya, let the constitution guide you. Youth are extorted, arrested or killed for: chilling at a base, being fashionable, wearing bling bling or camouflage clothes, taking part in peaceful protests, walking without an ID and taking pictures,” he said through his official Twitter handle.
Mutyambai took the oath of office as the new inspector general (IG) of police on Monday at the Supreme Court. In his speech, Mutyambai thanked President Uhuru Kenyatta for the offer to serve in the new position. He pledged to do better than his predecessor and leave a mark before the completion of his tenure in office.
“As I assume office as the new IG, I am conversant with the security threats our country still faces, especially terrorism, organised crime, corruption, cattle rustling among others. Multi-agency approach still remains the best way to tackle these challenges,” he said.
