Garissa County majority leader has finally come to the defence of the County Assembly over complaints that it was doing less in fighting for locals.
Mohamed Gabow now says the assembly was doing its best in keeping the county executive on toes as spelt out in their oversight roles.
Speaking to the press on Saturday in Garissa town, Gabow dismissed the reports that the assembly has become dormant and inefficient.
“As an assembly, we have continuously played our roles without fear or favour. Where the executive has done well we support and commend it but where we feel it has faulted we point out and demand that it should be rectified,” Gabow said as quoted by the Kenya News Agency.
Gabow was responding to widespread claims by two Members of County Assembly (MCAs) that they were just drawing salaries without performing specific roles in the assembly.
Just last week, local social media platforms were awash with clips that exposed Fafi ward MCA Mr Hassan Halane and his Bura colleague Abdullahi complaining the electorate was being used as mere rubber stamps by the County Executive.
The claims were so serious that several political activists had threatened to stage a demonstration against the county assembly.
