The County Government of Uasin Gishu will continue to enforce the law on sale and distribution of alcohol across the county.

This is in line with the Constitution of Kenya that devolved the function of licensing and enforcement of the law to all the County Governments in the republic.

Speaking during an Inter-Agency meeting organized by the National Authority for the Campaign against Drug Abuse, (NACADA), Ag. County Secretary Edwin Bett said that the administration would continue investing heavily in fighting the menace.

He said that it is not the absence of the law but the enforcement bit that needs to be enhanced so as to suppress the use and abuse of the illicit brews that forms the largest abused form of the drug.

Bett further noted that the County Government increased revenue when the multi-agency team carried out a thorough inspection and licensing of bars early this year.

The head of the County Public Service cited the establishment of a control board, support to reformed brewers and addicts and sufficiently funding of the department as some of the way in which the administration is supporting the fight against illicit brews.

The acting Chief Officer, Administration Wilson Sawe and Director Alcoholic Drinks and Control Board (ACDB) Silas Boit said that the raid would continue until Uasin Gishu becomes a drug-free zone.

Boit further called for cross-border raids for a seamless realization of the 100-Day Rapid Result Initiative (RRI) launched by Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiangi earlier this year.

"I urge all of us to commit ourselves in fighting against alcohol and drug abuse for us to achieve the government’s Big Four agenda. Alcohol is the main impediment cited by the President,” he said Boit while making his presentation at the Pearl Hotel.

The meeting brought together officials from the Ministry of Interior and coordination of National Government led by the County Commissioner Abdi Hasan, officials from KRA, KEBS, Anti-Counterfeit Agency, DPP, Kenya Prison Service, Public Health among other agencies.
