It's a relief for Homa Bay county after county nurses ended their strike on Friday evening and agreed to head back to their respective workplaces.
This is after they reached peace with the county leadership and signed a return to work formula under the watch of county health CEC Richard Muga and Secretary Isaiah Ogwe.
The nurses were represented by Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Union (KMPDU) Chair for Nyanza region Kevin Osuri and Amos Dulo, the county Liaison Officer.
Mr Dulo proceeded to officially call off the strike, saying that both parties are ready to commit to the agreement for the better relationship going forward.
“The county and KMPDU commit, in good faith, to the ongoing meetings on the implementation of the Collective Bargaining Agreement," said Dulo, according to the Nation.
The nurses have been lamenting poor working conditions, delayed pays, resulting in a three-week industrial action which has had the worst impact on patients in public hospitals.
The Governor Cyprian Awiti led-government agreed to complete the re-designation and promotion of qualified nurses by the end of this year.
The county also agreed to pay the nurses on the fifth of each month.
The KMPDU boss directed nurses to resume duty on Monday, while Muga urged them to always reach out to him whenever the need arises.
