The Suba South MP earlier in the week announced plans to table a motion seeking to cap the amount of money given in charitable initiatives by the officials at Sh100, 000.

This has been largely seen as a tact to tame Deputy President William Ruto who is known for contributing millions in such functions, claims that were rubbished by Mbadi on Thursday.

Speaking on Friday, the MP confirmed that the motion is not his personal move but that of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party which he chairs at the national level.

He added that his proposal was influenced by ODM leader and opposition boss Raila Odinga who is worried that most of the money donated during fundraisers could be proceeds of corrupt dealings.

"We made the decision as ODM Party. It's actually the party leader who attracted my attention to an alarming report about the millions of shillings being given at fundraisers. We, therefore, decided to move in and tame the situation," he said.

Mbadi was speaking in a phone interview with Kisumu-based Nam Lolwe Radio which broadcasts in Luo.

He noted that his proposal should not be treated with suspicion, arguing that corruption and queries on the source of the millions contributed during fundraisers have always been there.

"As ODM, we have been complaining about the huge amounts of money being dished out," he added.

The motion is yet to be tabled on the floor of the House.
