The Kenya Trade Network Agency Board chairman and former Mombasa gubernatorial aspirant Suleiman Shahbal has challenged the Kenyan government to invest heavily in the security sector.
"Let us learn from the Israelis. In the period between 1967 and 1970, Jordan was like Somalia- a failed state. Palestinian commandos controlled large areas of Jordan and used it as a launching pad for attacks on Israel," said Shahbal.
"Israel responded with such vicious reprisal attacks that the Palestinians began to think twice before attacking," he added on Tuesday.
He said the government needs to equip security forces with the necessary fire-power to respond rapidly and aggressively to attacks from within and outside the country.
While commenting on the Dusit D2 complex terrorist attack which left 21 people dead, the Jubilee Party politician and Mombasa businessman indicated Kenya needs to invest in Special Forces that will be available on site within minutes, fully prepared and trained for door-to-door combat and ready for any eventuality.
"We need to adapt a similar (Israeli) strategy. We need to equip our forces with the necessary fire power to respond rapidly and aggressively. Kenyan jets should be bombing Al Shabaab right now. Where are the drones?"
His sentiments come even as Interior and Coordination Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang'i praised the Kenyan security forces for responding swiftly to the attack on Tuesday last week.
Speaking during a premier joint meeting of police commanders in both the National Government Administration and the National Police Service at a Mombasa hotel, Matiang'i said Kenyan security agencies are alert 24 hours a day.
