Wajir Governor Mohamed Abdi Mohamud has extended an olive branch to his rival Ahmed Abdullahi.
Governor Abdi wants the former Wajir county boss to work with him in pushing the county's development agenda.
Speaking to journalists moments after the Supreme Court upheld his election, Governor Abdi said he needs the support of Wajir leaders to achieve the county’s development goals.
“My friend Abdullahi and others should now partner with my government as I push the county’s development agenda forward,” he said.
Abdi stated that he has nothing personal against the former Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) governor.
The Wajir county boss thanked his supporters for being calm and praying for him during the appeal hearing.
The Supreme Court upheld the election of Abdi on grounds that it was free and fair.
The court dismissed an Appellate Court ruling that had earlier nullified Governor Abdi’s election.
Abdullahi challenged Governor Abdi’s election on grounds that he did not have academic papers to contest for the seat in the August 8, 2017 general election.
