Emerging details suggest that Prof Abel Mugenda, the husband of former Kenyatta University Vice Chancellor Olive Mugenda, committed suicide in Nyeri town.
This is contrary to the family’s earlier reports that the late professor died after a short illness.
The Nairobian has scooped the details of the death. According to the weekly outlet, Professor Mugenda fell from the sixth floor of White Rhino hotel in Nyeri Town to his death on January 5.
Sources revealed to the paper that the man had checked into the hotel on a lonely mood from January 2 until January 5 when he decided to leap to his death.
His moves are reportedly well captured by security cameras in the facility.
The revelations have led to serious questions on why a man of Mugenda’s caliber would end his life and why the suicide was ‘covered’.
The deceased, a father of four, was a successful academician married to a successful spouse who stole the eyes of the public due to her management skills at the Kenyatta University.
Prof Olive Mugenda was even appointed into the Judicial Service Commission.
The deceased was a professor of statistics and research at the United States International University – Africa, and a renowned scholar, researcher, author and quantity surveyor.
“That is a man of no small feat. Why would he decide to take away his life? Are those with successful careers dealing with troubled private lives?” Jose Mbugua posted on Facebook.
