Paul Sang, a resident of Saptet, Kuresoi South, is currently a man living in anguish and fear for the safety of his family after his house and all his family's belongings were set ablaze, by an irate mob who descended on his home last week.
It all began on October 21 when Sang's wife is said to have quarreled with one of their neighbors over boundary issues.
The neighbor is reported to have fallen ill shortly after the scuffle, prompting her relatives to rush her to the hospital. She later died.
"After the altercation, Elizabeth (the deceased) went to her house and I came back to mine to go on with the laundry. A few minutes later, I had forgotten everything about it. It was only until the next day on Monday, when I got to know that Elizabeth had fallen sick and had been taken to hospital," Faith Sang said.
Sang claims at around 4 PM on that Monday, he got a call from a friend informing him that a mob had mobilized itself at the local shopping center having an intention to lynch his wife whom they accused of bewitching and killing the neighbour.
"The mob arrived led by the village elder and seeing how charged it was, my wife ran for her life. I stayed put and with help from the friend, tried to plead my wife's innocence with the crowd, in vain," adds Sang.
The mob, however, razed down his house.
"It is a week now since, I made the report and it appears the police are unwilling to commence the investigation and make arrests of the arsonists. The arsonists were even daring enough to come again and demolish the houses and the granary," Sang said.
Area chief, Peter Milgo, confirmed the incident.
"The investigations are ongoing and once completed the perpetrators will be brought to book," Milgo said.
