President Uhuru Kenyatta could be tasked to dissolve Nyamira County should a petition by a section of youths garnered minimum constitutional threshold, it has emerged.
By Tuesday, a petition by Gusii Youth United under Beavon Magare had gathered momentum in various WhatsApp groups, a sign of possible dangers of folding up the county.
Among issues raised include infighting between Governor John Nyagarama and his deputy Amos Nyaribo, poor service delivery and discrimination.
Also featuring in the petition is delayed payment of salaries where workers have gone three months without pay.
"Nyamira youths, on behalf of the residents, are asking the president to dissolve the county because service delivery is at his lows.
"The governor and his deputy have violated various constitutional rights of people which can be established by investigative agencies," he says.
Corruption and plundering of public resources have also extensively featured in the petition.
Before flying to India for treatment on Monday, Mr. Nyaribo accused Nyagarama of short-changing their pre-election pact.
"I am moving to the Registrar of Political Parties to seek interpretation of our MOU," Nyaribo said.
A similar situation was witnessed in 2014 when a section of Makueni County petitioned Uhuru to dissolve the county.
Even with his immense powers to do so, Uhuru instead called for reconciliation that has since seen the county to be top among the best examples of devolved units in terms of development.
