Recently, Siaya Governor Cornel Rasanga confessed in public that he has not done much compared to his Kakamega counterpart Wycliffe Oparanya, promising to pull up his socks.
The confession, however, sparked hot debate among Siaya county residents and residents from neighboring counties on why would he do less development, yet the national government disburses almost equal funds to all the 47 counties, money that is enough to run at least three-quarter of the projects in his county in a given financial year.
From the criticisms from concerned Kenyans, Rasanga has now decided to reorganize his government.
In a statement on the county government's Facebook page, the move is aimed at increasing efficiency and effective service delivery in the devolved unit.
In the changes, Governor Rasanga has introduced the position of an additional chief officer, who will be in charge of education with the other being in charge of youth, gender and social services.
Mr. Joseph Ogutu is the new Governance and Administration Chief Officer where he has also served previously. Until the new appointment, Mr. Ogutu was the Enterprise and Industrial Development Chief Officer.
The Education Department having been split will now have Joseph Omondi serve as acting Chief Officer of Youth, Gender and Social Services.
Peter Otieno remains the acting Chief Officer of Education within the Department. Dan Okoth, previously the Finance and Planning Chief Officer has now been moved to serve as the Chief Officer in the Department of Water and Environment.
Arthur Omollo previously of the Water Department will now serve in the Enterprise and Industrial Development Chief Officer portfolio.
The changes take effect immediately according to Governor Rasanga.
